which board out of these...

hi. so im selling some of my rig, and i need to replace the motherboard and ram. im not sure which cpu im getting yet, but its either going to be the 2500k or 2600k. so far ive come up with these motherboards, but i dont know what will be best for running 2 nvidia gtx470 cards (or above) as well as have great overclocking abilities .

OR SHOULD I WAIT TILL BULLDOZER COMES AROUND AND MAYBE INTEL 2011 SOCKET?

E-Sata, at least 3 usb 2.0 pin headers, and a good integrated raid controler are a few important features im looking for, as well as good sli performance, AND great overclocking abilities for the cpu.

some suggested ram would be great too, at least 1600Mhz and 8 gigs, preferably 2 x 4gig kit. my budget for both ram and motherboard is unknown, but i dont want to spend more than $350-$400, less if possible, but dont want to sacrifice quality or performance. thanks and any other suggestions would be great. thanks.
 
yeah i was wondering about that. although they (asrock) seem to have come a long way since a few years ago, im still a little sceptical on them. i deffinatly want something that will last, no cheap crap. im kind of leaning towards an asus p8p67 board, but really not sure about which one, as well as the msi line up that i have posted. please help, i need more input
 
Wait for bulldozer. Prices on current hardware will drop. From what I've seen of bulldozer, it's got great performance. They are set to release in a June.
 
linkin, i think thats what ill do. i told my buddy that i will drop the price to $375. he said cool and is paying me half now, then the other half the 1st week of june, which will be great timing for bulldozer release and ill post back here at the forum when its time. meanwhile, i still keep my stuff till he pays in full, so im not out a pc the whole time. thanks for the advice. worse way it goes, ill save some money by waiting.

:rolleyes: I hate when people make uneducated assumptions based on way past events.

ASrock got a bad rep from their 775 boards....ever since socket 775, asrock has been an underdog slowly building a trusting client base. Their socket 1156 P55 boards are excellent, their 1366 boards are great bang for the buck, and now their socket 1155 P67 boards are their best yet.

I've personally taken a 2500k on an Extreme4 to 5.2ghz on air cooling. I highly recommend the Extreme4 for a 2500k, and an Extreme6 for a 2600k. The extreme6 has 16 phase power design which would be better for more demanding CPU.

Oh and in case you were wondering on my qualifications for these remarks, I've owned and benched on atleast 8 ASRock motherboards in the last 2 years....just off the top of my head thinking here probably more.

And now, their p67 boards offer a 2 year warranty. Before, asrock only had a 1 year warranty. This shows great improvement in quality to back it another year.


Oh and bulldozer....hehe, IMHO it's gonna be a flop. AMD is soooo far behind right now it's going to be too hard to catch up. Bulldozer needed to be released before sandy bridge, then it would have stood a chance....but now you're not even gonna see an AMD 32nm cpu until 2 years after intel has released it's first 32nm cpu, and soon to release 22nm hex cores and octocores will follow bulldozer's release very shortly to pound it back down into the dust.

87dtna, are you suggestin gthen that i go ahead and invest in the current 1155 socket? ya see, im hung up over the decision. im thinking to myself, "2nd gen i series are pretty powerful. how much will be benefited from waiting, other than a little money being saved?" and as well with the ASROCK boards, ive done some research on them, and so far, it looks like if i were to invest in a 1155 socket it would probably be either the asrock extreme6, the asus p8p67 deluxe, or the asus ws revolution. what are some more thoughts
 
New technology will always be coming out....you'd be waiting forever because as soon as something new is released something else better is already in the works. It's an endless cycle.

I'm not personally a big fan of Asus boards....in general I hate the bios layouts and options. Only a very select few of the high end boards did I like. Asus has the best 775 boards, hands down, from the commando with the 965 chipset, the P5Q series for P45's, and the REX (rampage extreme) for the x48's are all amazing boards. But IMO, after 775 I've preferred asrock over asus on pretty much any occasion.

With that said, sandy bridge is actually a 3+ generation architectural jump from Phenom II. The 12mb cache Core 2 Quads can still actually even beat Phenom II quads in just about anything. Then nehalem architecture came to town, then westmere which is just a 32nm dieshrink of nehalem, and now sandy bridge.
Ivy bridge is going to be like the difference between nehalem and westmere. Clock for clock and core for core difference is barely noticeable, westmere just has more cores and larger cache. The same will probably happen with ivy bridge (more cores and more cache) but a 2600k is so powerful at this point that an upgrade would not be ''needed'' for quite some time.
 
well i guess im back to the same question...which board. its gotts be a p67 chipset, with the new EUFI bios replacement. im running sli, so i dont know if x8 x8 will degrade performance over x16 x16. any thoughts? i know that the asus ws revo supports the nf200 chip on it which give x16 x16 if using the pci e lanes routed to the nf200 chip, but i dont know if its a s good at overclocking as the deluxe or asrock extreme6. GUYS and GALS, i REALLY need more help than what ive gotton...aside from linkin, i need more input. thank you
 
I actually just bought an Extreme6 today LOL, and I bought Jasonn20's I7 2600k from the classifieds.

8x will not bottleneck a 470.
 
87dtna, will you post back and tell us what your thoughts and reviews are on overclocking capabilities, and the overall layout of the uefi. also, how well does the ai suite work in windows? can you please post and let me know these things please?
 
Yeah sure. With sandy bridge it really depends mostly on the chip rather than the board. Sure there's a few tweaks that you need to know, but it's 95% the chip. The extreme6 is a more than capable board, as I said I've already had an Extreme4 take a 2500k to 5.2ghz on air.

87dtna, how are ASUS boards crap for the p67 line? and i would also like the take on others opinions about the asrock extreme 6, asrock fatality1, asus p8p67 ws revolution and the asus p8p67 deluxe. will definatly be running 2 ssd in raid as i am now, as well as a sli configuration with at least 2 x gtx470, eventualy nvidia 6 series, and will be using the 2600k, and 1600Mhz ram
 
Not very many people here are running sandy bridge...only like 2-3 people really.

I just don't like Asus in general, the bios layouts are usually horrible....plus their support is horrendous. Only the high end Asus boards are good, again like the Maximus IV Extreme. Non of the P8P67 line is that great.
 
from what ive reviewed so far it seems that asus new eufi is the most appealing to me, although it is hard to find a review for the asrock bios the way asus has it reviewed like on you tube. as of right now, im kind of in the air between asrock and asus. i have an asus board now, which has the nf200 chip onboard, and it has served pretty well. hhmmm, i may have to move onto another forum for this one. any other advice and thanks for all the input so far.
 
I just don't like Asus mostly because they are A-holes when it comes to RMA'ing something. Plus they take FOREVER.
