Which cable do I use? HDMI, DVI, VGA for my 120Hz monitor

Hi again...

I purchased S23A700D. Just like the Asus' 144Hz monitor... 120Hz is the reason why I bought it.

So... what cable am I suppose to use... hdmi, dvi,... all of these are confusing and I don't know what each of them are supposed to be doing.

I also heard you have to use a specific type of plug for the 120Hz mode to be enabled or 3D more enabled or something?

Also, are all games compatible with 3D? Like.. does the monitor somehow magically turn everything into 3D or am I daydreaming?

Thanks in advance.

I would always connect via hdmi if it is available.

Ok, the thing about HDMI is... sometimes.. the resolution doesn't fit the monitor right. Like... it still produces 1920x1080 but it doesn't use the full 23" size... or at least that's what happened to my 27". So HDMI set up has always been weird for me :S

Also, should I be concerned with HDMI cable's quality too? lol

There is no picture quality difference between DVI and HDMI. The difference is that HDMI carries audio, so if it's easier for you, use DVI.

You've got a Radeon I see. If you use HDMI, you might get some problems at first with the resolution not being correct (happens to me with my 5870 too - I'm using HDMI). You need to go into your Catalyst Control Centre, then click on 'My Digital Flat Panels' on the left hand side, then go to 'Scaling Options' and drag the slider as far across to the right as it'll go (0% overscan), hit apply and OK and then it'll look right. :)

So long as your HDMI cable fits into both your monitor and your graphics card you should be fine. :) The standard size cable will fit into both.

If your using HDMI you might want to check if its actually running at 120Hz.

I have a 120Hz monitor (LG Flatron w2363D)..and it would not run at 120Hz using a HDMI cable..only using DVI it would run 120Hz 1080P.

Ok, can you tell me what the quick method is to verify that I am running at 120Hz with my monitor??? :D

OK, I will use the dual DVI cable that came with the monitor :P
