Hi. Which card should i choose for a system that will be used for a lot of wave editing (Pro Tools etc.) and some video editing (maybe not much - if this ever got extensive id prob buy a better card) and some occasional gaming?

he posted about $100 in another threat.. so i gues it stays like that.

as for Jordan.. occasional play is very vague.. :P some people play like once a month.. but when they play, they want to have it look perfect, hence they get a high end card :)
as for what you said.. along the $100 line, i would suggest a NVidia card,.. since they are really good in the lower budget line for grafic's.
personally, i would suggest something like:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814170102
as you can see... its a 7600GS,... but it has passive cooling. so you dont have a noisy VPU fan in your pc (like you would have with a high end card )
I know its a bit over the budget... but its certainly a nice card :)

true... but the GS and GT are pretty equal performance wise. ( true.. the GT can be overclocked further) but then.. the GS has a passive cooler on it :)

GS has 400MHz clock speed and 800Mhz memory speed and uses GDDR2 memory.

GT has 560MHz clock speed and 1400MHZ memory speed and uses GDDR3.

So there is big difference between GT and GS. Both cards are good overclocker, but i don't think that GS can be overclocked to GT speed.

The two cards have a very significant performance difference. The 7600GS is somewhat better than the old 6600GT, whereas the 7600GT provides performance similar to a 6800 Ultra.

I'd imagine if silence was vital to him, he would have mentioned so. The 7600GT would be my choice by far.

Did I? Sorry, cant keep up with all the posting im doing. You guys are all so helpful and quick with answers that its tempting to post about everything.

I live in the UK and just found out i cant use New Egg. I looked on the NVidia website for the UK and found a GeForce 7600 GT, but no GS. I guess the silence would be beneficial as the computer is to be used for audio recording, quite often the recordings will be done in the same room as the computer.

Aha - Post Update:

Ok so a little bit of searching turned up a GS and a GT

GeForce 7600GS

GeForce 7600GT

The GS will be about £65 ($120ish) and the GT will be about £95 ($175ish)

I think therefore id go for the GS as its cheaper and quieter.

Damn these UK prices!
