Hello. Could someone please tell me which card to go with out of those two. There is like 10 dollar difference in price unless I go with the rebate. They seem almost equivalent, only difference is the third party company and how they overclocked it or whatever. The difference may only be like 3% but eh its 3%. Just trying to replace a 128 MB x300...so yea. I have PCI-E and all that etc. Just wondering which one out of those two.

EDIT : Also when buying memory as long as the type is the same like DDR2 SDRAM is the same it doesn't matter on brand right? A noobie question but just making sure.

Thank you for your help.
Happy holidays.

I would go for the whole 8800 gt or Ati 3870 but my motherboard does not support pci-e 2.0.

It doesn't have to support PCIe 2.0, they work just as well on 1.0. Like mine and everyone else running a 8800GT or 3870 ;)

For price/performance i would get a 3870. IF bestbuy gets them back in stock, they are on sale for $193 :eek:

Like said above dont get either of those cards at that price a 3850 or 3870 or even a 256mb 8800GT would be alot better card.

The 3870 has GDDR4 :D

Which helps it to OC farther. I've been looking around though, and most of the stuff I've seen shows that the 3850 can usually OC to about the 3870's level, if not higher, using ATItool. The 3870, however, can OC quite abit itself. Add in a volt mod, and I've seen both cards able to top 1ghz core. (on ocing forums) Eek.

The 3870 is actually almost identical spec wise to the 2900XT. Even though the 2900XT only has GDDR3 for the 512MB version, it has a 512 Bit memory interface so the memory bandwidth is almost twice of the higher clock GDDR4 of the 3870. :)
