Which CPU would you rather have?

Well I am pretty bored, and was messing around on newegg looking at cheap intel dual-core processors.

I was wondering... would you guys rather have:

A Pentium 4 (single core)

OR

an E1200 (dual-core)

I may be an AMD fan if you can me that but the obvious choice would be the E1200 duial core being not only a newer model but certainly won't run as hot as the P4 does! That's something to consider when deciding on a stock or 3rd party hsf too.

Depends on what P4 we're talking about. A hyper-threaded Prescott P4 with L3 cache clocked at 3.8GHz will outperform any dual-core celeron in most if not all applications, however the E1200 pretty much destroys any of the earlier P4s (Williamette cores, probably some northwoods as well).

I would go for the Dual Core. Pentiums are not worth getting now days because of dual core and the quads cores now.

You'll find that most new softwares are geared for dual core cpus to start with at this time. Keep that one in mind too. Single cores out, dual and quad in is the general rule there as well as for everything else.
