Which CPU

Also, would the jump from either the 3800 X2 or the 4000 64 to the 4400 toledo be worth the $200 extra? (Considering I'm gaming and multitasking with dual monitor).
no, it wouldn't. 200 is too much of a price incrrease for not much better performance. 1meg of cache and .2ghz is not worth it.

Well, also considering i dont want to upgrade for a while after upgrading the CPU.. should I still go with the AMD 4000 or the X2 3800 (a friend of mine told me to go dual core fo-sho).

1. Definitly go dual core

2. Wait for the prices to drop on the processors you have seleceted

3. The X2 4400+ will definitly last you a long time, its a very nice processor

The X2 3800+ is still a nice processor, and should last a long time as well.

Is it feasible that the prices will drop enough when conroe comes out that i can actually get a 4800 toledo for around the current price of the 4400? (or maybe even a dual core FX?)

thanks for the advice btw :)

Shows that the X2 4800+ and the X2 4400+ both dont drop in price. That is the latest I have seen in the price cut plan.

Lets see, MAYBE an X2 4800+ depending on price cuts. But an AMD FX dual core, thats just pushing it.

looks good, if that'S true, ill get the 4800 (because 5000+ isnt made for 939, right?)
Correct, Socket 939 X2's only go up to the 4800+. AM2 has the 5000+.

I have an X2 4400+ and am very pleased with the performance, I had an athlon XP3000+ before and I have noticed how much faster it is. It's not just the speed, it's the fact that it's just smooth during extensive multitasking. - Well a lot more than my Athlon XP3000+ was. Using DVD shrink I believe it does operations in about 2/3 of the time. That might be the big cache too.
