Which extra card for triple monitor and related

How far into the coming generation will a NVIDIA Geforce 570 last me if I want to keep playing games smoothly on high(not extreme) settings?

Heres what I want: 3 monitors, one to play games on and the other two to watch videos/browse at the same time. I have the above graphics card. Now I know that card can't have more than 2 monitors connected, so specifically what kind of extra card do I need to get it to work? same model? same brand? just any old card? And will that let me run 4 monitors?

I've seen a lot of conflicting information, and a lot of the answers have been directed at work stations that aren't going to be used for gaming. A definite answer would be greatly appreciated.

Will I need a stronger power supply? My current is 650W, and the popular power usage calculator recommends 620W with my current setup.

What games do you play? A single 570 won't handle high/extreme on newer this-generation games at acceptable framerates.

I'd probably upgrade PSU if you were looking at SLi. It would be really close wattage-wise depending on the rest of your system as the 570 is a ~250w TDP card. Also, you didn't note which specific unit you have.

I see. In that case I guess I will be upgrading GPU and PSU before I thought.

I still don't have any idea what it takes to run 3 monitors with NVIDIA cards

Hi Zerazar, Welcome to CF

I have been in that same situation before. It's definitely hard to find the right information.

Using the 570 for the gaming monitor and one other monitor with a second less powerful card to run the third display will work, but it can do some odd things when moving windows from one screen to another. It didn't break anything for me but there was screen flashing every time that I dragged a window over there. I used an ATI 4850 with an nVidia 8400gs to run multiple displays.

Anything that is nVidia surround capable (6xx and up) will run three displays without the need of another GPU in SLI or active adapters like you need for AMD Eyefinity. You don't need to set them in Surround mode, you can just have all 3 displays running. Games will show on the screen marked as default.

What are the monitors that you want to use and what is the make and model of your PSU? I probably wouldn't add another card if you are already that close to the max of your PSU, but the calculators are usually a bit bloated.

Hope that helps!

Right, sorry. It's a CoolerMaster GX Bronze 650W. The monitors are unspecified at the moment, an odd mix of LG and ASUS it looks like.

It sounds like it's rather unrealistic to fit in another GPU, even a small one. I'd rather not fry any components.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll have to wait until funds allow for both a new PSU and GPU.
