Hey guys!

I need your help to make me decide what GPU I'm getting. I've done all my reasearch, but i still cant make a decision!?

Nvidia GTX 285 - $380
or
ATI HD 5870 - $410

Please tell me your opinions, much will be appreicated!

:D

5870. demolishes the gtx 285, has dx11, and is ati so you know its got that oc power. I would wait until fermi releases before you buy though. that will drop the price by quite a bit

5870 BUT if you want to go Nvidia Fermi is coming out in a 5 days or so which could provide to be as good if not better then ATI.

Same price range if I recall too.

GTX 480 is $499, and is roughly 10-15% better than a 5870. not big enough performance increase versus the price increase... however the GTX 470 is only $349, so a bit more competetive.

Still, that Catalyst 10.3a drivers give up to 30% performance boosts on the 5800 and 5700 lines, in DiRT 2 and a lot of other major titles got 5-15% percent performance increases.

^ I would still wait for Fermi. We still don't know much about them yet, but I have a hunch that the GTX 470 might even make a match for the 5870, at a lower price. Don't completely ditch Nvidia before their DX11 cards come out. Like Twist86 said, they're coming out in 5 days, so it's not a long wait.

EDIT: Also keep in mind that Nvidia might lower the prices on their GTX 200 series cards once the GTX 400 series comes out, so if you're more concerned about price than having the best card out there, you may just go with the GTX 285.

actually fermi has been pushed back to april 6th so you will have to wait a teensy bit longer
Yeah but that's only for retail, though, so ther'll probably be comparisons vs. the 5870 before then. It'll give time to make a buying decision. It's still a shame, though. I was wating hopefully for March 26. :(
