Which hard drive should i select for a laptop?
320GB SATA at 5400rpm
or
200GB SATA at 7200rpm?
I'm guessing the 1st would have more room but the second would run smoother, correct?

Choose the 5400 RPM. Your battery will thank you and your laptop will stick around longer.
Never ever ever ever put a 7200 RPM hard drive in a laptop or a thin client (mini desktop).
The temperature would kill it.

Well depends if you want the space...

If not, yes the second, the higher the RPM the better.

I recently swapped the 5400 RPM drive in my Laptop for a 320 GB 7200 RPM one.

The change from 5400 ---> 7200 RPM had a bigger impact on my system performance than did upgrading from 1 to 4 GB of RAM. THE BOOST IN PERFORMANCE WAS PHENOMENAL and got my laptop running close to the performance of a mid range desktop.

From now on the first upgrade to any laptop for me will be to a 7200 RPM HDD.
