i'm unsure of what hard drive to use. i'm not really an expert on computers, so i was wondering if someone could even recommend a few (at least 40 or 80 gig). i just got a new motherboard, and for some reason my current hard drive will not work at start up with it.. it mentions something about incompatability?!? either way, i would like to get a new hard drive (my current is pretty old with only about 8 gig max). the new motherboard is KT6V-LSR (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=KT6V-LSR&class=mb) with an amd processor. thanks!

First you need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html and the reminder given to new members to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

The specifications on the Socket A board show:

On-Board IDE •An IDE controller on the VT8237 chipset provides IDE HDD/CD-ROM with PIO, Bus Master and Ultra DMA 66/100/133 operation modes. It can connect 4 Ultra ATA drives. •Serial ATA/150 controller integrated in VT8237 - Up to 150MB/s transfer speed - Can connect up to 2 Serial ATA drives - Support RAID 0, RAID 1

There are a number of choices for both ide or sata that will work on that model board. It sounds like you have been running an old ATA66 model drive there. With the prices having come down sharply over the last several years you can go for a 500gb ide or sata drive for just over $100-. For 120gb or 160gb those come OEM foir about $50-$60 at some vendors.
