Im buying a Revolt gaming cpu and am given two options on what i7 processor I would like except I know very little about them? I am given the choice between the i7-3770 and the i7-4770K. Which will be better for gaming and is it worth spending a few bucks for the upgrade?

For gaming you dont really need an i7,A i5 will do the job nicely although if you really want an i7 out of those two choices i would go for the 4770K as its newer and unlocked.

I have the 3770(K) and it performs very nicely, even at stock.

To answer the OP, the 4770K is the best option by far as you can overclock it. And those who say an i5 will suffice have never played FSX ;)

Yup either you probably wont notice a difference in gaming honestly. My 970 is per-clock slower than the newer i7s and it does perfectly fine for me.

indeed the 4770k will be the best and worth the extra money, but even a i7 2600k/2700k will still do the job for gaming haha.
but go for the 4770k, but keep in mind that if you want to overclock, the can get hot, so a good cooler would be a good investment to.

For most games an i5 is all you need anyway.

If you must have an i7 - get a 4770K. Newest generation. Why buy into the previous generation?

How much extra are we talking about here? If its $100 extra Id say its not worth it at all if not just for bragging rights. If my 970 can max out games just fine I couldnt imagine that there would be enough of a difference between the 3770 and the 4770.

Im sure my 970 is bottlenecking my card to some degree, but I couldnt see it being more than 10FPS average on most games. I mean, I could be wrong, I havent personally worked with the newer i7s.

Also this though, I am seeing the same if not better gaming performance with my machine versus benchmarks I have seen with my card paired with various newer i7s than mine which is why I havent bothered to upgrade my platform just yet.

Yes it is.

The 3770 and 4770 are almost exactly the same chip. However by getting the 4770K you have given yourself probably an extra year or two as you can overclock when you need to (to keep up with the latest game or GPU), instead of upgrading.

Trust me, always get the K version. You'll kick yourself later if you don't.

But to answer the question, you put a 4770K and a 3770 in your machine, you wont tell the difference between the two until you go to overclock, and then you will be glad you spent the extra bucks.
