I personally dont like AMD either, had some bad experiences, but if it were me, i'd go with the Intel Core 2 Quad. I recently went from Duo Core to Quad Core, HUGE difference in the responsiveness and smoothness of most games that I play, eg: Doom 3, Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, Star Wars: Empire at War...

Alot of the specular glows and "special" things, don't really run too well for me on the Duo Core, but this Quad Core, I won't need another PC for the next several years if all goes well.

The E8400 will obviously be faster.

The extra cores with the Quad will come in handy once in a while, but right now there's not many programs that utilize more than one core.
