Which Intel processor is better?

I would like to know which Intel processor is better. By "better", I mean speed or just in general. Otherwise, if you had these two yourself, which one would you use? Included is a link to Intel's site with the specs. Thanks! Also, if you would happen to know on hand, the processor that is faster, I would like to put in a motherboard which I could upgrade to a Core 2 Duo/Quad chip one day. Like an LGA775 --945G or something:confused: Thanks again!

Intel® Celeron® Processor 2.60 GHz

Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 2.40 GHz

I'm gonna say the pentium 4 if it has hyperthreading. Though you'll have to get better cooling for it as it's known to heat up too much.

Just go with pentium. cause celerons are oooold but I really suggest a dual core if you can afford it. I don't know that much about the pentiums and celerons but I used to have a celeron CPU and I can tell you: It was sloooooow, I didn't even have to compare it with other procesesors to know that it just was.

Pentium 4 2.4GHz is better because it has more cache and higher FSB

Though you'll have to get better cooling for it as it's known to heat up too much.

Only Prescott that run above 3.0GHz produce a lot of heat.......

But the one he posted runs at 2.4GHz and it is Northwood which doesn't produce a lot of heat

I'm gonna say the pentium 4 if it has hyperthreading.

No it doesn't support hyperthreading but it is still better than celeron

You mean the Pentium D? If he's going to get a dual-core he might as well spend a bit more and get the Core 2 Duo.

it COULD be a Pentium Dual Core Geoff...

look into the E21X0 line.
