There's the 1150, 1155, and the 2011. Im looking to build a good gaming pc. I don't need to do any video editing or video game creation. I guess what I'm saying is I don't think I need a 2011 socket, cause an i5 chip should be good enough, but which is the better socket between 1150 and 1155?

1155 is for Sandy/Ivy Bridge
1150 is for Haswell/Devil's Canyon, which are newer.

There's a newer 2011 coming out with DDR4 (X99) if you have a large budget.

Also, some newer 1150 boards have features like SATA Express where that is not an option on the older 1155.

Also, 2011 socket supports 40PCIe lanes so where you are using high end multiple GPUs and / or ssds and other PCIe devices, the 2011 socket is better.

okedokey, you just brought up a good point. Id like to be able to run the most graphically intense games on their highest settings on a 65" 1080p plasma tv at 60fps minimum. Will 2 hi end gpu's be up to the task, and would their be enough pcie lanes on an 1150 board? Keep in mind ill be running an ssd for the OS and most common apps, and platters for storage.

I appreciate your post cause that never crossed my mind.
