I'm am a very new to Linux and all I have experienced is LiveCD(Knoppix) and LiveDVD(SUSe10.1). The live stuff is a bit limmited so I want to move to an installed version. Any recomendations? I am looking for something that is in depth. I want to get right into and skip all of the noob distros. Just as long as it does have a gui im good for trying it out.

You sure about that?

Give Gentoo a try and you might change your mind lol.

If you want more flexibility but don't want to be swamped at the same time, get a full version of Ubuntu and give it a whirl. There is a Live version as well so don't get that one.

Ok now in response to Gentoo now I see I might need to start out slowly :)

Ubuntu looks good so Ill give it a shot.

Edit: You know I have heard alot about Debian Ill try that

Partition your drive and try a few flavors. Get familiar with one you like and just bomb any of the others. Personally I've only even tried Ubuntu and RedHat...Ubuntu was way better for me.

Ok just ran into a snag. Debian requires me to format my partitions to resize and I just realized I have to have Windows for my Virtual School. I think I might be able to find a tool that lets me give some room to Linux without formatting everything. Thanks for your help.
