Which laptop is better?

I'm seriously considering buying one of these 3 labtops. Last time I bought a pc I didnt do enough research and overpayed and didnt get what I sould have. this time around I think I've done a better job and have it narrowed to these three. Which is the best unit for the price? All three are very close in price.

These two are very similiar: (basically the same computer)

The only difference in those two that I see is DVD controls and 90 gb difference in Serial ATA hard drive. Also one has 2GB DDR2 memory where the other has 3GB DDR2 memory.

Here is the third and I really don't know if this one is better or worse then the labtop listed above :

Of these two which PC would I be better off with? Which processor is better. Thanks guys I appreciate it alot. Please give me honest advivce though and don't bash either system. I don't have 2000 bucks to go buy 2 pcs with (my gf and I both want our own). So we need a resonable labtop that we can purchase 2 of. Obviosly I wanna get the right one when I am buying 2. If you have any other suggestions go ahead with them, but atleast let me know what you think of these and the difference between the first 2 and the 3rd one. thanks again.

Personally I think you should disregard the last choice as the 2nd is better and cheaper.

I am not american myself, but I believe a lot of people on this forum use newegg.com and I have heard that it is a lot better than best buy or the like, might be worth looking at.
(though I cant find either of those laptops there, and none in the $300 range.)

At the end of the day it depends what you are going to be using it for, and how much you want to spend. Its up to you whether you want to spend an extra $50 and get more space / RAM.

Personally I would choose the $399 model.

out of all of them, you'd probably like the hp best, because compaq is hp's "cheap" brand. the second is nice, but i noticed that all said they were sold out online

The HP is good, has a better processor than the Compaq, but doesnt have the same HDD space (160GB vs 250GB), and is smaller (15.6" vs 14.1")

At the end of the day im not sure whats better (HP or Compaq) as a make, but I would say the 160GB should be pleanty of space, unless you are storing loads of videos /music etc...
