I'm looking for a portable gaming rig that is powerful and can run new games smoothly.

G74 seems faster on GPU. However, this look like bestbuy version? From what I had heard for other Asus model, they may use lower quality screed panel or have quite a lot of preload software??

best buy one has 2gb's more ram, but both have more than enough for anyone almost, and the newegg has a slightly better gpu, both have one of the top 2 mobiles i think, unless there is a more powerful ati, but consider all the high end's use these i doubt it.

Ok, I've decided to go with the G74SW-XN1 from NewEgg. The only thing I am worried about is re-installing windows to get rid of the terrible bloatware, if I take my PC to Best Buy, will the workers be able to do it for me? I'm pretty worried that I will mess something up if I do it myself...

there is an option in xp i know for a destructive format which delets everything but drivers and windows i think, but may leave programs too or something, idk.

Best buy will do that for 70. It is their pc set up.

any reason you went with smaller one? The g74 it's more powerful. And to johny the gtx460 is not better than the 560...
If you really wanted to though, laptops are made with an hd6970. I have one.

Can you give a link for the laptop you decide? I can't seem to find it .

i didn't say the 460 is more powerful, said it was barely less powerfull and the 560 is a revised and improved version, at least that's what i meant by it.

It's very simple to grab a disc and reformat. You will want to download drivers for your hardware before you do, along with stuff like browsers and common programs you use, everything else can be progressively done as you remember it.

Hmm that seems awfully high just for a re-boot... and I went with the G53SW because I've heard that the G74SX at Best Buy is a gimped version of the real G74SX, which should be about $1700. And this gimped model has a few problems according to the reviews section.

I don't understand why I would download drivers for my hardware before I re-install everything... wouldn't that just delete everything? Or do driver updates stay with the hardware. And also, what is a partition?

Here's the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230027

I've also found this walkthrough for re-installing an ASUS laptop http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...lk-through-doing-clean-windows-7-install.html, so I hope it will help me. I won't be getting this laptop until early September, anyway. I'm still saving up money.

EDIT: Also, is it recommended that I buy a SSD with about 50GB-80GB for my partition? And then use the HDD for games and such? Or the other way around? >_>

considering you're getting a lappy a ssd isn't a good idea since laptops aren't made to install extra hdd's, you can replace the one in it but i'm pretty sure you can't add one since they are trying to make them as small and light as possible and the majority of people don't do this stuff and it isn't a vital thing so i really doubt you can.

The hard ware isn't gimped. And if you are reading the same reviews I am, I am seeing mostly postive stuff. What makes it cost less in part is the lack of blu ray. One advantage to it though is that it has a second hard drive bay so you can add an ssd. the 15 does not.

The 69 is not to reboot it. That's really a dumb way of getting trial ware off. All you have to do is uninstall it. If you just want a bare copy of windows to do that'd you'd have to buy it, which is another $100. The recovery disks and partitions have those programs on there so that won't do any good to use them.

I like the idea of the 15 inch version, but I'm just a fan of the more hard ware for the 17 inch.
