which linux versions?

get dreamlinux

it's only 700mb, and can run from a cd, so you can try it out before you commit to partitioning a drive and installing it

remember, linux can't run on a fat or ntfs filesystem, you need to dedicate a section of your storage space to linux

best linux for beginners used to be corel, tho. now-adays i'd suggest suse, or mandriva

download the ubuntu live cd and boot from it, if it runs okay then your system will probably handle it okay. The live cds can also be used to install from

puppy linux or even feather linux !!!...those are really small distro's..and there's even DSL..damn small linux..just google for info

They recommend at least 256mb ram and at least 2Gig install space.

I would suggest Xubuntu (Ubuntu using the Xfce desktop environement) 128Mb will be ok.
