Which memory combo should i get.

2x512MB DDR400(total=1GB) in dual channel.
2x1GB DDR333(total=2GB) in dual channel.
1GBDDR333 +512MB(total=1.5GB) DDR400.

Right now i have a 1GBDDR333, and a 512MB DDR400.(last option) I thihnk this would eb the worst, but thats why im asking, I think the other two would be better(correct me if im wrong) so would 1GB running in dual chanel DDR400 be better, or double that(2GB) and run it in DDR333? These are my ONLY options so please do not suggest others.


This will be with a AMD Athlon64 3400+(around, maybe a differnt one, if the mobo/cpu cmobo comes with better mobo or cheaper price or a different one, but its definatly going to be a socket 939 A64

well 2gb would definitely run much fater than 1gb regardless of the speed.

if i am not mistaken, All the ram you have now runs at 333 even though the 512 stick is 400. i am pretty sure that ram will only run as fast as the slowest stick.

also i dont think dual channel will matter unless your comp supports it, but that might be why you asked.

I just said im getting a A64 socket 939 which supppports dual channel, and i havenever seen a motherboerd that socket 939 that doesn't support dual channel.

Also what if i had some PC1002GB compared to some PC32001GB thats in dual channel, i would think that the PC3200 would go faster since its soo much faster even though there is much less of it. your comment may apply to DDR400 and DDR333, but not cmoparing lowest SD and highest DDR.

sorry, i missed that in the original post.

in that case is price a factor for you or is the sky the limit??

I posted that for a reason.

Also if the sky was the limit, i would have 4GB of DDR at least, and prabbaly a better CPU also, i wuldn;t even ocnsider those three options/

Sorry i left that out of the original post, gaming, image editing, web diesgn, then all the simple stuff like e-mail and web browsing.
