Which memory do i need

Im doing my 1st build and could do with some help picking memory to, i was thinking 4Gb of DDR2 rated at 1,066Mhz?

Im getting a Asus P5E-VM motherboard running a Q6600 & they don't recommend using more than 3 Gb of 1,066Mhz because it won't recognize it.

I think i read somewhere that for best performance you should use a pair of matched modules which gives me a problem as a 2Gb and 1Gb module wouldn't match.

So what would you guys recommend for best performance?
Maybe stick with 2Gb of 1,066 or get 4Gb of lower rated stuff?

Just get 4GB of DDR2 800 ram. DDR2 1066 isn't really that much of an improvement because it has higher latency than DDR2 800 ram.

I thought it would have lower latency  But i'll go with the 4Gb of800Mhz then. Thanks.:good:

Will any DDR2 800 do? Or do certain brands perform better? Im assuming they're all standard size and fitment?

I'd stay away from G.Skill RAM. It's cheap for a reason. Had nothing but problems with it. I really like Corsair and OCZ RAM.

Try Patriot Memory.

Also I'd still go for 4GB memory since the prices are so good like on Newegg for example. If you have 4 slots try to get a 2x2GB kit. If you get 4x1GB it will put more stress on your system if you plan on either overclocking the memory or to trying to match the manufacturers low latency timings and voltage setting instead of leaving it default to a slower automatic setting.

Thanks i might need some help with this when it gets here! (2x 2Gb)
I'd be happy with small, reliable gains.

Cheers guys
