Gigabyte S775 I865PE ATX Sound LAN USB2 FSB800 ATA100 Retail Box

£54.95 inc VAT

or

Gigabyte S775 I915g ATX Sound GiG LAN USB 2.0 FSB800 SATA Retail Box

£59.44

Am i correct thinking the is?

Ebuyer.com codes are 64802 and 64804

they are both similar, the only differences are the chipset (they both perform about the same), SATA on the 915 and onboard graphics also on the 915 (it has a 16x PCIe slot as well for addin graphics card, or at least is supposed to)
I didn't look at the board, but the 915 may have ddr1 and ddr2 slots as well

for sure that one
what is the reasoning for this? I'd say the 915G is much better. It has a PCIe 16x expansion slot for when they PCIe market really picks up and is about the same price as the 865. The 915 also has good onboard sound, not AC97.

Definitely not fo sure ... if you're gonna be using the 775 platform you might as well be using the chipset family developed for it (rather than adapted).

"you don’t need to upgrade the main board when you decide to install a new CPU. However, a new main board will yield faster performance with a new CPU simply because it will use a new chipset."

tha's what sandra says...food for thought

the I865 BOARD,, i brought off ebuyer, loooked reallly good, but .. HD didnt boot, and cpu_fan connector didnt power the cpu fan,, and the keyboard didnt detect, so not sure whats going on,,
