Which NAS ? Or maybe something else..

Hi, i have this:
BUDGET - Around 300 @ 500$
(1) MY Desktop computer - *Direct router port connection* Port1
(1) Girlfriend Laptop computer - *Wireless router port connection* Port2
(1) Linksys WRT54G 4 ports -> LAN Cable/modem
So, i have 2 ports free.

I have a garage beside my house, where i would buy/use a new laptop as a tool to diagnoses troubles. I don't want to bother with wires..and stuff like that..
My ideas is to get one or two external harddrive, because i have automotive softwares over 300 GB. But i also want some freespace for the laptop and desktop in the house to store music, videos..etc.

Am i on the good way with a NAS, if i want the data being accessible with all the computers ?

Will the WRT54G signal pass through two walls ? (House wall + garage wall )
?

Coz, i need internet in the house, in the garage, and i need ext.hd signal in the both too.

yes, it is just of buget. since it looks like you have a few spair pc, you could do it free or just buy that. they will do the same thing in the end
