I am going to upgrade pretty quick to either a p4 with HT or an amd, price is realy not a concern! I have a celeron 2.93ghz right now and its actualy not that bad but I do alot of video editing and dvd burning and converting file formats takes some time. I also play some games and I like to be able to play new games that are comming out, So I was wondering what would be the right cpu for my needs? I am leaning towards a 3.4p4 overclocked alittle with watercooling!
 
I would go for a dual core cpu ! I think a Intel Pentium 4 940 Dual Core "LGA775 Presler" 3.2GHz (800FSB) might be up ur street if not u might want to look at a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ (Socket 939).

Then get an FX-60:D.

Seriously though, i'd probably be looking at the X2 3800+ or 4200+. A little more expensive than the P4, but well worth it IMO.
 
With those types of tasks, you should definetly be looking into a dual core CPU, and I'd lean towards that Intel Pentium D 9 series, as was mentioned above. AMD's X2 series or FX60 are also on par, and if you plan on doing any gaming as well you may want to look at that.

get a dual core AMD 4400+ or... FX-60 if you wanna do video editing. both are dual core and would outperform pentium D's... even the one with HT (meaning 4 SMT)

defintily do not lean towards the pentium d series. if ur gonna go dual core(which you should) dont get pentium get AMD.
