which os is better

Home is for the average home user, Pro has more networking features and bells and whistles. Pro has group policy editor to allow or disallow access to certain areas of the os to each user.

Pro deals with security issues.
should be able to find cheap enough now.
works well.

Pro has lot more security built in.
In fact its above me and my knowledge.
Im been meaning to bring it up.
Local security policy

XP Pro lets your computer join a workplace network domain, XP Home does peer-to-peer workgroup network sharing. Otherwise they are pretty much the same.

If I had to choose a Windows OS, XP would be it. Win98 is actually, IMHO, the simplest and best OS Microsoft has put out there. I don't use XP or 98 that much anymore because my Fedora Core Linux machine gets more attention.

Linux is the best because
-Based on stable UNIX
-Widely used/trusted in server/workstation/mainframe apps
-Low-cost or even free
-Very stable, virtually crash proof
-Adaptable, Linux can be used on almost all PCs more than a couple years old
-Great OS for new PCs
-Less than 3% fragmentation
-Security galore
-Viruses? Not in the vocabulary in the Linux world. Same with UNIX/MacOS

Viruses seem to be only for Windows users. Poor Windows users. :(

Yep. 98 Rules alright.

Even though Linux is unix-like, it's not actually based on it.Its original creator created linux merely for fun...but it turned out to be something bigger than that. Well I'm *not* saying that any of the original code is used..but It's not just simply ripped of Unix.

NOTE:
don't ppick on the grammar/spelling or anything, made heaps of mistakes there
ON TOPIC:
Depending on price difference, and your needs (<was that of any help???). I got Pro because of greater flexibility with some settings & policies, and "Professional" just sounds cool...plus, it wasn't much more expensive than Home Edition (Where I bought it, that is).

If you're not thinking of doing any networking (by which i do NOT mean connecting to the internet or hooking up two computers) or you don't need to have strict, easily customizable policies on each and every user, Home Ed. should do fine. I've used both quite a bit and really, I can't see any advantages of Pro over Home in everyday use (everyday use here can mean gaming, programming, and heaps of non-"average" stuff.)

Pro is much better.

It lets you decide on alot more choices between different user powers and also security wise.

If you get sent a virus on a linux machine, it can't even cry to itself unless you tell it to.
This is why I <3 Linux.

This is why Windows users are so knowledgable, we spend 80% of our time repairing Windows :P
