Which processor is best for Dell 1501 laptop?

I have a Dell inspiron 1501 with the AMD Athlon 64 x2 which seems slow. I also have a spare AMD Turion 64. Which is faster out of the two? Or which processor will work or will any processor work in this laptop? i am looking for a dual core processor. Much like the intel core 2 duo. thanks
 
It depends on the speed of the processor. I had the same laptop and I configured it with the turion X2 2 ghz processor. What speed is the Athlon x2? Also depends on the cache of each as well.
 
the Athlon is running at 1.8ghz. Was the Turion x2 processor quick? My wife has an HP dv6000 notebook with the Turion 64 x2 and i havent seen any problems with it being slow like i am having in my dell. I may look into the Turion x2.
