Which processor is better for gaming?

This question probably sounds stupid but I don't know much about processors...

Basically which one would be better for gaming purposes?

AMD Phenom ™ X4 9150e Quad-Core Processor
OR
AMD Athlon X2 4450e Dual Core Processor?

Trying to figure out which one would be better for gaming. The Quad-Core Processor says 1.8GHz. While the Dual-Core says it's 2.3GHz?

The Quad-Core seems slower because it's less GHz but I don't know how that works with quads so that's why I'm asking this question... xD

Thanks in advance!

The dual core would be better for gaming. However if you do a lot of multitasking as well as gaming then you might want to consider getting the quad.

It's unlikely that your going to be disappointed with the quads gaming performance. I never was with my Q6600.

Actually, the Phenom would be better for gaming in this case. It used to be a rule of thumb that faster dual > slower quad, but this only applies to Intel CPUs since Core2 duo and quad are based on the same architecture and the cores have same clock-for-clock performance; the Phenom architecture, however, is much more efficient (almost on par with Conroe) than Athlon 64, so even in single-threaded apps the much slower-clocked Phenom would perform about as good as the Athlon. Also, multithreaded games are becoming more and more common, so the quad would definitely be better.

I would look at a computer that uses the Athlon 5200, 5400 or 5600. The clock speed is 2.7 gigahertz and faster with these models.

However, if you want spend a little more money go with the the Phenom Tri-Core processors as they are cheaper than the Quad-Core Phenoms.

Look at either of the following:

Phenom 8650
Phenom 8750

These models of processors have three times the cache (high speed memory) of the Athlon Dual-Core processors.

Thanks for the help! I was asking because I have the quad right now and was wondering if I should take the dual my cousin was offering me. :P Looks like I'll just keep my quad then.

oh no, he just had it and didn't need it anymore. He was gonna give it to me for $50 so I was wondering if I could actually use it or not. ;)

He wants to sell it for $50? I may be interested in purchasing it. I would pay $50 plus shipping costs if I like it. Is it an Original Equipment Manufacturer PC or is it custom built system? What are its specifications?
What operating system is installed on it (Windows XP or Vista)?

From what I saw the dual core could oc more to get a higher ghz but the quad could still acheive a higher fps. Keeping the same MOBO and GFX.
