Which PSU brands are the quietest?

Excluding Zalman (since it's expensive), between Ultra, Enermax, Antec, & Sparkle, from 1-4, which are the most silent?

It depends on the power output you are basing it on. Generally speaking, a 400W PSU is going to be a lot quieter then a 1500W PSU.

Noise level of power supply generally depends on the load along with the design of the cooling fans. Full load increases fans speed on a single or dual 80mm or single 120mm. Generally a 120mm would be quiet enough. The casing type and fans are usually the ones to look into it when building a quiet pc.

Thanks, guys. How does 'PC Power & Cooling's' silencer model able to "reduce noise by 90%' Hiper PSU's may be quiet, but i've seen bad reviews about them. Of the PSUs listed in this post, Seasonic is not only the most affordable, but since it's the quietest, it probably my best bet, right? What is the "casing type" of a PSU? And are 80mm or 120m fans quieter?

Really? Where are you looking, cause Seasonic PSUs are usually very expensive. As for fans, 120mm fans are usually pretty quiet, but 80mm fans create less turbulance.

antec makes very quiet psu's, i just got the quattro 850 and i cant hear the fan at all.
what about thermaltake, arent those usually quiet?

ive got a thermaltake 550watt and it only makes a noise now and again when psu comes under load playing cod4 etc...

i couldnt belive how quiet it is

Thermaltake doesn't make anything quiet. From PSUs to heatsinks to fans, noithing.

Like PabloTek said, FSP do real silent PSUs, but they're extremely expensive and not that powerful. However, like I said before, Seasonic has been known for their quiet PSUs for many years. Check out SPCR, they praise almost every single Seasonic made units.

I'm sure you're not hearing it, but have you considered the other parts in your computer? Unless you have 2 low rpm 120mm fanned radiators, a 0dba pump and no other fans in your 900, I'm sure the noise that your PSU makes won't shine through as much as from my computer.

i dont have all that in my pc at the min cos my quadcore/motherboard is coming tomorrow-WAHOOOO

all water kit is out and all fans etc...

all i got is my psu and cpu fan running-yes i was expecting it to be noisey psu but i am pleasantly surprised

I hope your joking here. Isn't Zalman one of first PSU to even claim quietness?

I shop at newegg.com saw a seasonic for $40 bucks at 300w, not bad. What do mean by 'turbulence' does less of that equal minimal noise?

FSP probably has the cheapest, quality PSUs newegg has a 300w at $25. Is FSP quieter than Antec, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling or Enermax, though?
