Which ram for a new iMac?

Hello,

My friend has just purchased a brand new iMac in the UK and wants to have 4 gigs of ram in. He uses his iMac to design websites. It already comes with 2 gigs . Since it uses an intel cpu can he by nice ram like Corsair twin MX etc...? Will his machine realise that it has 4 gigs in it? He doesn't overclock at all but money is no abject. So which ram should he buy for it?

RAM is pretty much RAM on the consumer level these days. I personally recommend Crucial memory because in my experience it is the most compatible with the computers that can be "picky." Like Sony, Apple, and IBM can be picky about what RAM they work with.

I have also used generic RAM in Macs as well. So, really you can take your pick and it should work.
 
I thought Imac's could only support 2 GB tops anyways because the MAC OS doesnt use as much processor as the windows OS

Macintosh platform has been using the 64bit platform for a while now, about a year before MS did. The newest iMacs can support up to 4 gig of ram over 2 RAM slots.

You are correct though, that OS X uses less system resources to accomplish the same tasks.
 
Thanks for the help. Can I just confirm then, before he buys some ram, that he could get 2x2gb sticks of Corsair Twin XMS 240 pin, PC2-6400 ram. Is this ram good enough? Is there any point in him getting PC2-8500+?
