Hey i'm am a newbie here and want to boost my memory, but i'm not sure which RAM to buy for my pc. Here are my pc's specs:

OS: Windows XP Pro
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 524, 3366MHZ (23 x 133)
Mobo: Intel D945GTP
Ram: 512MB DDR2 533MHZ
GFU: NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT (512MB)
PSU: 420W

I want to upgrade to 1 or maybe even 2 gigs of RAM and would also like to buy it from future shop or best buy. Which ones do i need to buy?

The first step when making any changes like adding more memory is to look over the specifications on the main board itself. http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/d945gtp/index.htm

According to those the model board you have will run DDR2 667 memory due to support for the faster memory while the standard is 533mhz. It will take upto 4gb of memory total. The memory you end up buying from either of those two places will depend if you are intending to go with performance or value type memory as well as the brand.

Well thanks for the quick response. I want better performance, but at a bargan price if you know what i mean. I was thinking 1 gig would be okay but wasn't sure what to buy. Would 2 gigs be noticably better then 1 gig with my current setup? What would some of my options be?

512mb of memory even with XP is a bit lacking for things these days. The initial leap from that upto 2gb would be astronomical as far as you are concerned since even Windows besides any programs you run will seem far smoother as well as seeing an overall performance boost.

Prior to the last build and this new one in use now previous builds seeing a matched pair of 512s even value memory there saw some noticable improvement once upgrading from to 2gb. 1gb by itself will allow you even to run Vista while the new Windows being larger with no suprise there since XP also seemed "bloated" when that was first used would get by while being ssslowww to some extent.

The best recommendation anyone can give you there would be to see a good pair of 1gb dimms put to use there. Some are rushing at 4gb at this time even for use on the 32bit versions of Vista while that's above what the average desktop will have any real use for.

For the work horse type build I pondered on that much being installed and still decided on 2gb with good results still being seen. Since the standard on that board is 533 you see some great prices on 2gb kits(2x1gb dimms) for running the board there in the dual channel mode. The brand and type depend on the type of system you use there.

Yes you can out them in. I've not heard of the brand before but it's probably a house brand from BestBuy.

I don't know if 2GB will be noticable for you, it depends on what you use your computer for.

I am going to buy tthaat RAM. I use my PC for multi-tasking and gaming. Do i have to change the memory speed from 533 to 667, or will the PC do it its self? Will I have problems with the timing being different or anything?

K-Byte is too much like PNY memory and not what you want to see in a performance demanding gaming system. Retail stores like Best Buy, CompUSA, and others sell low to mid quality memory with their label on it. Shopping around a little for memory like a good sale price on Corsair xms series, OCZ Premium, Crucial, Kingston Hyper X, and some other better known brands would be the better choice over rushing at cheap simply to save on price? Not so likely in a retail chain over online.
