I want a new laptop. I dont know if I want the centrino duo from HP or from gateway... Is the duo even worth it? Intel and pcmag says not unless you heavy multitask. Well when on battery I usually have a lot of firefox tabs open, msn messenger, google notifier/desktop, aim, and maybe some music via headphones. Battery life is VERY important to me. I definitely like the look of the HP more. But the 8 cell gateway battery over the 6 cell seems appealing. I guess I could always buy an extra 6 cell with the HP. I also like the webcam on the HP. It is a little more money though. Per feature the gateway is cheaper. Should I wait for a dual core AMD 64bit Turion? Is the duo centrino even 64 bit? How much better will a dual core turion be as far as battery life or what not. Well guys I appreciate the help. Thanks in advance...

I currently have a compaq v2030us
1.4 centrino
1gb
60gb
integrated 128mb graphics
nothing else interesting

for what your doing, your dont need a Dual-Core CPU. A pentium M will be more than enough, it also has great battery life.

Well the Intels should be better on power saving. As for Duo Core, that is true, the only thing you'll notice is when you're heavy multitasking. If you're fine with multitasking on computers nowadays, you should be fine with anything currently on the market. Not much advances (if any) during gaming. As for the new Intel chips they're 32-bit still. 64-bit should be about mid year.

So you guys just think I should go with a high powered pentium M now... How bout batteries.... Gateway 8 cell or a HP 6 cell with an extra battery. I did really like the integrated webcam though on the DV1000t series from HP. I mean I want atleast 1gb of ram. I am a huge believer in ram... Id rather have 2gb of ram and a 1ghz than a 2ghz with only 512mb ram. What about a lenovo... I think I may miss the windows key though on IBM. Why dont they have em? Any other recommendations? I want a 14 inch widescreen with hyperbrite or whatever is the branded name for that company...

I think the HP will do fine for you. If you like the integrated camera, I see more and more systems coming out with them. With the growing users of instant messaging and phone calls, it's almost a necessity to some users, just like a card reader built in. You can ask yourself if the camera is worth more than the extra 2 cells. To some, the extra 2 cells can be overlooked.

Well I dont want to spend a lot more on the duo centrino if it is unnecessary.... I mean I like it and everything but it is necessary to get the dv1000t(duo) to get the webcam. What do i do?

Hmmm... you got me stumpt there. I just looked it up and I didnt know the DV1000t was going for that much money. Well for a more affordable alternative, there's the Asus A3 and A6 series, both with integrated 1.3 mp cameras and mics. The A3's are 15.1" normal ratio screens and the A6 is 15.4" widescreen. Both with very good battery life. Haven't had one complaint on those. As for the HP webcam, if they dont list the specs on it, it's probably just vga and not even a megapixel.
