Which SSD to buy?

All right, so I've been checking on many SSDs from Intel, OCZ, Samsung etc, but the different numbers and specifications are so many that I have a hard time deciding which one is the best one. I want an SSD for my laptop and I am thinking of buying either 128gb or 256gb and I don't really want to go above 2500 NOK (Norwegian kroners), which is approximately 300-400 USD.

So which SSDs are the latest, best and offers most of the money?

Is it for your laptop? I'd get Sata III even if those speeds aren't supported.
Some of what I look at:
Price
Price vs space
MTBF
Performance
The chosen drive's user feedback at the manufacturer's site.(not reviews)

I like the Crucial M4, Corsair Force 3 and SanDisk ExtremeSSD drives. I have an M4 myself and it's a great drive, and my Dad has an ExtremeSSD and that is also a great drive. We both have 120GB drives, and that's enough for Windows and programs. The ExtremeSSD is meant to be one of the fastest consumer SSDs available on the market, so that may be something to consider.
 
+1 on the Crucial M4, it's most likely the drive i'm going to end up getting as well. Either that or the Mushkin.
 
Yeah, Intel is always a good choice, but the problem is often price. What about KingstonX? to me it seems cheap and powerful ;o

Also about the crucial M4: it has a reading speed of 500 MBps and 175 write, while Kingston has 555 read and 510 write. Isn't that much better ;o ? Sorry if I am stating stupid questions, but I am simply curious xD

The Intel 520 series has 5yr limited warranty.
The rest have 3 yr warranty.
The Froce GT's MTBF is 2,000,000 hrs. The rest are 1,200,000 or lower.
 
Hmm, I want a which is fast and reliable, which then would be either the Corsair or Intel, which one is the most "trustworthy" 2,000,000 of MTBF or 5 years of warranty?
 
assuming my math is right, the 1,200,000 assuming its not a mistype, is 137.36 years before failure. and the 2m hours would be 228.93 years before failure.

hours to days. days to weeks. weeks to years.
 
I've got the HyperX. It's really bloody fast. The warranty I'm not too fussed about, because in 2 years or so I'll probably be moving onto another computer.
Never had a problem with it, it's been amazing.
 
Yeah, from my point of view the Kingston HyperX seems the best one- most performance for the money. It also has most features such as Sandforce technology, something I believe the others f.ex. the Intel SSD don't have. So if you'd rather choose a different one, why? :)
 
The Crucial M4 has been rock solid for me since I got it in October, and updating the firmware couldn't be easier. You just download the ISO from Crucial's website, burn it to a CD, boot off the CD, type 'yes' and away it goes. That's it.

I remember about a year ago Corsair were recalling some of their SSDs, and I remember reading about blue screens due to faulty controllers. That put me off buying a Corsair SSD though that was a year ago, the issues should have been fixed now. :)

Basically they're all very fast and reliable, just go for whichever you fancy. I like the M4, but the HyperX is also a good drive.

OCZ is another one that seemingly should have had a recall with Sata III, mainly the Vertex 3. When the Sandforce 2281 controller first came out with Sata III speed, most ssd makers went with that same controller. So the issue was with that controller and not a peticular brand. I don't think anyone recalled tho and I think Mushkin was the 1st one to come up with a FW that helped. So, like said the issue with Sandforce isn't what it used to be and the M4's Marvel controller has been steadily reliable.

The vertex 4 has some proprietary new technology but I haven't look into it much yet. Maybe someone else has.
 
Phew, the decision is becoming tougher and tougher xD Ok, let's begin with the basic. When it comes to speed: is write IOPS or read IOPS most important when wanting a fast SSD for games?

The crucial M4 has a read IOPS of 45000, while the HyperX has 20000. Write on the M4 is 35000, while 60000 on HyperX :S

I'd just grab whichever is cheapest, the HyperX is faster though, take a look here http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/355?vs=412 but the M4 is still very fast.

You want the fastest read speeds possible, write speeds aren't all that important, especially for things like games where the game/program is reading files from the SSD.

if I had to choose a different one, it'd be the M4. But I chose the HyperX as it was faster, and Kingston are legendary with warranty. They pick the absolute best parts from each batch and make their drives from it.
