Which tablet/ notebook should I get?

Hello. I am a third year veterinary student who recieves all notes for classes in Microsoft Power Point format. I would like a tablet/ notebook in which I can take to class (compact and light) and just write notes directly onto the computer device- AKA don't have to print out note pages on which to write/ have to type the notes into the Power Point document (both are VERY time consuming).
I am not quite sure of my budget, as I don't know yet know how to find an appropriate product. I currently have a Dell PC laptop computer that satisfies all my computing needs minus the convenience of being able to write notes directly onto the Power Point slides themselves, so something very simple (to just download these notes and then "write" on them and then upload them to my other coputer) and "inexpensive" would be ideal.
I am willing to hear any and all suggestions and I thank you VERY VERY much for your help!

If you plan on doing extended typing sessions it will have to be something with a keyboard. Touchscreens are terrible for long writing sessions. Touch typing is all but impossible, so you have to actually look at what your typing, look back to see if it's right, and repeat. Terrible especially if speed is necessary. I'd recommend a netbook; cheap, small, keyboard enabled, directly compatible with full on powerpoint. You can buy them with touchscreens, but if you're somewhat skilled you can do it cheaper by buying a seperate touchscreen for a cheap netbook.
