Which to get I7 or Core 2

ok so here is the problem. i use lenovo (ibm) laptops and i am getting a new one but i got a problem on picking. which one . i got it down to three. they are...

Lenovo IdeaPad Y550p - 324164U
IdeaPad Y550 Ultimate
Enhanced ThinkPad T510 laptop

i the problem is i heard the i7 has been having overheating problems. i have been working with computers for a while but this is a hard choice does anyone have any advice
 
Well performance wise i7 without a doubt
so if you want to game or edit videos than i7 is the way to go
also if you are searching for a desktop replacement


but if you are looking towards portability and want battery life and the laptop is for work than a core 2 duo would be the cheaper option and also would carry out all tasks flawlessly but i suggesty you go with an i3 or an i5 processor since the i3 they are pretty new and are made for laptops

i7 is the best for everything apart from batetery life, if you want battery life look for i3 or i5 which is better performance wise

the i7 laptops can only work well as desktop replacement with a cooler and on chargin =g all the time
so as i said earlier go with the i3s or i5s
 
You need a middle ground, get an I3. Better performance than a core 2 duo and consumes less energy + makes less heat than even the core 2 let alone the I7.
 
They make dual-core i7 cpu's for laptops. They don't use much more power than your average Core 2 Duo. They come in 18W, 25W, and 35W varieties. Not sure what the difference between those and the mobile i5's is.

Thats true, but most of the reason they are less wattage is because of the GPU clock being cut in half to 266mhz VS 500 mhz.

The difference is 1mb less cache on the I5's, thats pretty much it.
