Which video card and monitor

So I'm still putting around with my old system, I'm using this for some word and pdf files, email, internet surfing and I play World of Tanks. I keep wanting to upgrade, but work being slow and my computer working good causes me not too. So I'm looking to upgrade my GPU then possibly my monitor. I was looking at the 670/7970 for around the $400.00 mark, but then I see threads praising the 7850 at around the $200.00 range. I don't plan on OC, but if it's just a matter up going into the amd cat. and moving it up, I'd do that. I don't want to mess with voltages and such. Also this is the only game I play and it's not demanding, but if I but my settings on high I get lots of glitching, jumping, stuttering or what ever you call it. As for the monitor I was thinking of getting dual 24" or one 27". I see the Asus and Samsung 24" for around 150-200 range and alot of the 27" for around 300.00. My monitor is great right now, but thought I could use a few xtra inches as I get older..... Regardless I plan on buying a gpu in the next week or two.

Here are my specs;

E8500
Asus P5Q-E mobo
G SKill 4gb 8500 ram
WD 640
Asus 4870 512mb
OCZ 700
22" Samsung 2253BW

Thanks for the suggestions......:D:good:

I would not spend that much money on a graphics card for this system. Kind of older, not that great of a CPU. (Not saying its bad, but I don't think its on a 670/7970 level)

If you ever upgrade, though, a 670/7970 might be nice.

But a 7850 may be a perfect fit. Roughly the same performance as a 570, with more vRam. Its a good choice.

What do you do that warrants the need for dual monitors? Games would have to be played in windowed mode if you want to surf on the other monitor. But really, if you need two monitors, I'd buy the bigger 24" or 27" and use your 22" as the second monitor.

I would say:
HD 7870 for a great gpu. It's good enough to run almost all games now on max, just 1 or 2 on hi.
Than, with the extra $100, find a used Core 2 Quad Q6600 for a nice cpu, will run all games on max right now, with a good gpu.
Don't know with monitors. I would get something with: IPS desplay, LED, and 1080p at least, try and find a 1440p monitor. I would get a $500 1440p monitor. 1080p at 27in just isn't enough, for good detail.

We'll I was going to put the new card in this rig, until I built another rig and then just transfer the new card into the new build. And keep this for internet and such. Use the new machine for my gaming and maybe some internet. As for monitors, I don't think I'm going to get a IPS monitor and spend that much money. As for not looking good I don't no about that, I'm in my 40's maybe it's just my eyes, but 1080p looks good to me on my 40". So maybe if I were in my 20's I could tell the difference but not now. :eek: Thanks for the info, I think I'll keep my 22" with this for now and upgrade to the 27" when I save a few more $$$. Still looking for more suggestions on GPU's. I definately want to upgrade this now. Thanks for the information so far guys......;)

If you can afford a 670, its definitely the way to go for the price. Mine is fantastic, maxes all games out with 60+fps.

If you don't game hardcore, I would not recommend a 670. Maybe a 6850 or 70.

Are you sitting directly in front of your 40, though? Sitting close to a monitor makes a big difference over far away from a TV. A GTX 670 would be great.

Sitting maybe 6' away so no, not directly in front of it. I think I'll go down to the local electronic stores in the next week or so and look at them up close. Yeah I just want to play WOT (WORLD OF TANKS) at the highest settings. I have them set now to med/high. I get an average of 60-65 fps, although I've seen it drop to 20 and as high as 100. With that said do you think I need a 670? Would I be able to get something in the $200 range that would do it for me. If not I'll get the 670. Thanks again for all the help guys...

Here is an update;

System requirements for the game at maximum settings:

Operating system: Windows XP/Vista/7
Processor (CPU): 2 Core 3 GHz
Memory(RAM): 4 GB or more
Video Card: GeForce 9800 with 512 MB of RAM / ATI 4850 with 512 MB RAM, DirectX 9.0c
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible Free hard disk space: 5.9 GB
Internet connection speed: 1024 Kbps or higher (for voice chat)

So according to this I should be at max settings??? But the game is not smooth???
