Which would be the best choice for ram?

If i have these in a computer:

512MB DDR400
512MB DDR266

And i'm planning to buy a 2x1GB DDR400 dual-channel kit

If you are planning to get 2x1GB DDR400 modules, would you add it with the 2x512? IF that's the case, you'll have 3GB ram running at DDR266

or

Would you throw away the 2x512MB modules and stay with your new 2x1GB DDR400 modules on dual-channel mode?

or

Would you throw away the 5125MB DDR266 module, and keep the other one, so you'll have 2.5GB DDR400 non-dual channel?

Which would be the best choice, the faster speed?

So what would be better:

3GB DDR266
or
2GB DDR400 dual-channel
or
2.5GB DDR400

I don't think you would notice much of difference between PC-2100 (DDR 266) speeds and PC-3200 (DDR 400) speeds. I think you should try out the 3 and 2.5 gigabytes of RAM and see if you notice any difference in speed.

If you like PC-3200 2.5 gigabytes of memory more than the PC-2100, I would sell the extra 512 megabyte stick of memory rather than throwing it away.

I would probably just use the 2x1GB sticks myself. Not many people will really benefit from more than 2GB of RAM right now
