which would be the best choice

Both are mid range model with the 8500 by MSI being Vista ready. For simply running an older model for XP the 7900s are seeing lower prices at this time. MSI and EVGA are both two of the top performers brandwise.
 
Both are low end cards, I would say overall the 7600GS would beat a 8500GT unless you just want directX 10 but the 8500GT isnt strong enough to really do anything with it. If you want a cheap card go for atleast a 7600GT or 8600GT
 
Yeah they are both really low end cards, I don't recommend gaming with them, they are really useless. If you want to game with old games then they would be fine, but for recent releases, then you would have no hope. If its a choice of those two, I would go for the 7600GS, there if a reason for it being more expensive than the other one.
 
i am open to suggestions to a different video card but i must say i am on a budget about $100 maybe $110 is the most im willing to spend on a video card
 
Yeah that 8600GT card with $20 would be the best choice for your price range. Don't expect blazing performance from that card though, its only good for light gaming, it will play recent games but only have really low graphical settings.
 
Are you kidding? MSI makes some excellent performers for both ATI and NVidia models. On the last build the MSI Radeon X1300Pro 356mb model ran HL2 and other games on high settings at 1280x1024 there. And that was a lowww... end model card.

The price factor brings you to the mid range models that simply won't see as much support for antiliasing and antisotropics. The rebate for the 8600GT bringing the total down to $75 is the bargain for a DX10 card there however.

I agree with u totally, I mean you dont hear MSI that much but they do punch out some pretty kick ass cards every once in a while
 
When putting the present build together here I wanted to step up from a low end card to a better performer for a few different reasons. That was prior to seeing the X3600s and X3800s PCI-E 2.0 cards and boards alike at the time to replace a fast 939 build.

The HD 2600 and 8600s alike offer the DX10 support while also seeing DVI and HD for the newer lcd monitors out. Just in time since the old lcd was seeing problems.

I still have to try out the DVI cable over using the vga adapter on the Viewsonic ViewDock model seen at http://www.viewsonic.com/products/lcddisplays/xseries/vx1945wm/ :P
