Whistling?

After I shut down my computer, it whistles - it's like a hitch pitched
sound. I have to turn off the PSU from the back with the 0/1 switch
to silence the sound.

I have ASUS P5QL. Could this be a manufacturing defect? Could this
be caused by another part on the computer?

I notice the motherboard has a green LED that stays on when the
computer has shut down. Could this be related to the whistling?

I have a similar problem with my really old computer speakers. When
I press the power button that turns them off, they vibrate as if they
were still playing a really quiet sound. I have to pull the power cord
from the wall to silence those.

Of course, I notice all these sounds because I sleep in the same
room as the computer. So when I'm heading for bed, after I shut down
my computer, I hear like computer is still running.

Any suggestion?

I thought the same thing, then found that the whistling was coming from my monitor. Typical in hannspree and hannsg monitors. Also, you are bound to get some sound from your PSU. I'd test it and replace it. Doesn't sound healthy.

Yeah a PSU in my old computer made this high pitched noise about a month before it died with a bit of a bang.

Btw its normal for a light to remain on, on your motherboard itself even though you've turned the computer off.

I too thought it might be the PSU. When it's running, it's makes a lot of
noise too. The 500W PSU that came in the $40 case I bought is quieter.

Oh wow - I just searched the OCZ 600 SXS on Google, and the first
thread I found: http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5472
Someone is complaining about the high-pitched squealing too, and they
had it replaced, and the next one is just as bad.

Update: I'm going to send my power supply back to OCZ. They are going to
replace it with a 700W PSU. I have to pay about $10 Cad for the shipping to
their factory. I think it's a small price to pay for an upgrade, and a power
supply that won't make my ears bleed.

Score! :D
