hey guys,

long story short i was given a broken hp nc6000 with a cracked screen so i removed the hard drive, dvd/cd rw and 256 ram but i came accross what i believe is a VGA subcard. is this the graphics card? im a bit of a novice, in fact a real novice at upgrades. anyway is it easy to swap this into my laptop, dell inspiron 5150? ive put the ram into the dell, and im going to house the dvd/cd rw and harddrive externally, as back up.

also there was a wireless network combo in the nc6000.i only know its a wireless network combo because i saw a picture of one on ebay(likewise with the VGA subcard!) could i stick this into my dell? i dont want to do it incase i break my laptop! and would i need to install drivers or something? i know there's a lot of questions there!!

thanks in advance guys!!

Yes, you'll have to install the drivers. I hardware model number may be on the card itself, so you look it up later and download it. Windows may already have it or download by itself. The hardware may work, the most it can do is shoot off a couple beeps and/or not turn on, it should destroy your computer. I think the RAM is the same, sometimes Dell don't use the advertised speed of ram, so watch out. HD would be no problem, and the wireless card may beep or not let you turn it on if it's not compatible. Most likely if it fits, it may work. As for video card, most are integrated and not removable. Even if it was removable, it may not work or won't fit into another's motherboard or casing. Most laptops- the only way to put in a video card is shoving in the same exact one, even PCI-E cards. Laptop GPU's havent gotten to the point where they're interchangeable like desktops has, they're still being made in order to fit the system.

thanks

hey, thanks for that. i put the wireless combo card into the laptop and windows attempted to locate the drivers but couldn't. its a intel wireless card, forgot to mention that in the last post, so i went onto the intel website and located the download driver section but i dont know which one to download! is there any way of finding out what the model the card is? i looked at the card it but it doesn't appear to say which model it is like, i can stick up digi photos of it if that helps:rolleyes:
