Why 2 PCI-E Slots

Why would this Mobo come with 2 PCI-E slots when it doesnt say SLI or Crossfire support?

According to AsusTek's website:

Supports ATI CrossFire graphics cards (blue @ x16 mode and black @ x4 mode)

But you could also use the extra PCI-E for future cards, such as the new physics processors.

Some people have the 2 pcie 16 not just for sli, some just use it to have 4 monitors. If the mobo dosent support Sli/crossfire, I think the 2nd one runs at like 4x or sumpthin...
