why am I losing mbps?

On my laptop I am getting between 75-40 mbps but if I go on the internet it is slow and ive tried various speed tests and they all have around 4mbps please help.

The wireless sync speed is independent of your internet speed.

What is the speed package you pay for ?

I do not know the internet it self but we have the pakage with the new white sky internet box with sky+hd box. We do have the phone plugged in to it aswell. I've been on to the ip website I've changed the chanel to the least congested one and ive been though all the settings. I also tried a speed test downstairs and tried a ether net cable but only 4mbps. I do not know why but I used to get 15mbps but It dropped in the last couple of weeks. We used to have virgin but it was too expensive and that was last year. I did not have my laptop then. I've turned it of for a minute then turned it back on, no difference the driver is also up to date.

we still need to know what your isps advertised speed is.if the system becomes overloaded ie too many installs and not enough bandwidth it will become slow.my isp had to put in a new server when this happened to me.did this slowdown happen when you switched isps?

Look at your bill or log into the online portal. For your service summary it will give you an mbps figure for your Internet service.

These are still the settings for your local wireless, which is a different interface than the Internet bound one.

I also tried a speed test downstairs and tried a ether net cable but only 4mbps.

This rules out your wireless specifically being the culprit.
