Why is my Ping and Speedtest results better on a server that's farther away?

Here's my speedtest results from a close server: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1005811441.png
Here's my speedtest results from a father server: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1005813505.png

Here's my Ping from a farther server: http://www.pingtest.net/result/26835166.png

Is there a way to change what server my internet is on so I can get faster internet? Also, why are the results better from a server that's farther away?

Maybe the close server you tested was under heavy load. same thing happens to me. The sydney pingtest server is horrible, the nz one gets better results for me.

A server might be physically close to you like on a map, but the route to get to it could travel to another part of the country and back again before reaching it, the server with the shortest "network distance" will be best. So if it says 50 mile on the speedtest site it means as the crow flies but in reality could be 400 miles network distance.

As linkin said, you could also have picked a bad day, it varies like hell.

No, you are stuck with the server you are signed up with. For a more true result use the speed test many server providers offer.
