Why does it say this?

hey, i have a dell inspiron 8500 and it says i have a speed of 1.2Ghz, but im supposed to have a 2.0Ghz, it also says though: Max. CPU speed supported by board: 2000 MHz, is there someway to overclock it to 2.0Ghz?

2. Are you taking into consideration SpeedStep?

4. You can disable Speedstep in BIOS

okay uh, what exactly is speedstep? and where would i get it?

Speedstep is a 'feature' built into intel laptop setups that automatically downclocks the cpu when its not needed to preserve battery power and reduce heat. If you have an intel laptop then you have it.
