Why does the start menu not work on Windows 10?

One of the issues with windows 10. I've dealt with this a few times. Sometimes its an easy fix, other times its not. What antivirus program do you have installed? What I would do is back up your data and do a fresh install of 10 using the media creation tool. Use your existing key to activate 10.

I have Avast.

How do I get to the media creation tool? And how do I find my key?

I have Avast.

Figures. I had a client that upgraded to 10 with Avast and his start menu wouldn't work. I uninstalled avast and it started working again. However, I had to do a fresh install of 10 about a month later because it stopped working again. No issues since. You might want to try uninstalling Avast, reboot and see if it works. If it does, then reinstall Avast.

Download the media creation tool here so that it downloads the ISO of windows 10, then you create the install dvd.

You can use your previous OS key to activate 10. If your machine is store bought then you can use the key that is on the sticker either on the side of the case if its a desktop or on the bottom if its a laptop. If your previous OS was windows 8 then you'll have to use a keyfinder program to pull the key from the registry. You can use magicjellybean keyfinder.

Press ctrl+alt+delete, and in the bottom right hand corner you click the power button. Before you click 'restart', hold down the shift key until the next screen is displayed (blue). Then click troubleshoot, advanced options, start-up settings, restart. Once it restarts, press the F4 key, and when it restarts you will be in safe mode. Now just do the normal thing to uninstall avast and then reboot it should be fixed.

I uninstalled Avast and the Start Menu now works.

But when I tried to reinstall Avast, it says it isn't supported by Windows 10. Can someone suggest a good free antivirus that would be supported by Windows 10?

Okay, it worked temporarily and now it's not working again. Also, the active programs are not appearing on the task bar?

Is this just something I'm going to have to live with with Windows 10?

Should I uninstall the new version of Avast that I just put in?

Also, things like when I push Win+D to minimize all open programs doesn't work.

This is really bothering me. I use this for my business and it slowing productivity.

And the clock doesn't work, either.

If it weren't for Alt+Tab, I wouldn't be able to access any of my open programs.

What is Bill Gates so rich for, anyway?

What I would do is back up your data and do a clean install using the media creation tool to download the iso and create the bootable install dvd. There are just so many issues when people upgrade to 10 instead of doing a clean install.
