Why does WinRAR always say files are corrupt?

About 10% of the files I download, Win RAR says are corrupt when I am extracting them. I know this is bs because others say they downloaded and extracted them fine. So what’s going on? I have no viruses or spyware.

Just becaues others extracted them fine doesn't mean you downloaded it fine. If there are other sources, try other sources.

Rapid Share is a perfect source. They store and upload data in the exact way its uploaded to them by the provider. Anyway there is no possible way WinRAR would know if the data I downloaded is an exact copy of the data uploaded to Rapid Share. So what exactly does "corrupt" mean when it says that?

There are no other sources. There never are because the source I download from works for everyone else and thus there is no reason to make a second source. I have tried downloading many different files from many different sites but the problem still exists.

If you're downloading via newsgroups, 99% of the posts there include .par2 files. Those are repair files.

I too often have corrupt rar files when downloading from newsgroups, I use Quickpar (http://www.quickpar.org.uk/Download.htm) to repair the corrupt files.

Just installe Quickpar, download the .par2 file for the rar files wich are corrupt (it's only a couple KB's in size), and open it. Quickpar will then check how many "blocks" of the rar files are missing.

You then need to download enough repair files (the other par files). In the filename of every repair file there's a number (ex. +22), that number shows the number of repair blocks in the file. Download enough blocks and Quickpar can repair the rar files.

Data corruption can occur whilst the file is being downloaded. Irrespective of the source, there are a number of rar repair tools which you can download to scan and/or repair these files.
