Why is my battery life so little?

Wondering why my battery life on my laptop is so little. Got a new SONY VAIO VGN-n320E around a year ago, power with the adapter is fine(of course). Even if i leave the laptop idle unplugged, i probably wont get any longer than 30minutes. Does leaving the power adapter plugged in all the time the reason for the shortage of battery life(somehow damages it)?
 
check the power plan settings of your laptop. it might be set to performance, that consumes the most out of your battery. set it to balanced and you'll get 2-3 hours battery lifetime.
 
^^ Yup Reducing the power plan actually reduces the speed of your Processor when its not needed as much thus, saving battery. Also, how old is the battery?
 
seems more like a hardware problem, even with it on high performance you should still get at least 2 hours. your battery may have shorted out somewhere along the way and even though it may be full the lappy thinks its dead and shuts down

Thats what I was kinda thinking too. Maybe it got moisture or something.

hmmm. if the battery shorted, wouldn't it not work at all? it happened to my sister's old Vaio. just basing it from experience. :confused:

True if the batt shorted it prob wouldnt work but, if it has moisture on the contacts or something then the lappy isnt getting good connection or something. I dont know im just throwing ideas out there. Wow It's time for me to go to bed. 2:40am here
 
could be moisture, surge during a storm, or in my case 4 brownouts in a week while i wasnt home brought my lappy and my old psu in my compy down a peg.
 
i definately cant get 2 hours even on low performance, if i take out my power supply, and have itunes and aim going, ill maybe last 40min max, i keep my laptop at home but just in case i wanted to take it around, any other ideas, thanks for the inputs
 
seems like one of the outputs was shorted by a surge of some kind.... at least thats my best guess. i suggest buying a new battery. not really much else you can do at this point
 
Overtime laptop battery life's shorten. It is normal. Sucks, I know, but looks like you will have to buy a new battery to get it's original battery life back.
