Why is my computer underclocked?

Hiya, I'm having a problem with my computer being underclocked for some reason. It should be running as a 1.4 ghz but it's only running at 1.05 for some reason.

Here are my hardware specs, if you need to know anything else, just ask. :)

Is it new? does it give you the right proc. name in windows? usualy it's the FSB that causes the processer to be underclocked and usualy reading wrong under windows.
 
well, i got the same problem - my is AMD XP 2400+ but computer recognize it as 1800+ .

First , i went to AMD website and check the serial number - and confirm mine is 2400+ .
Then , i take the advice from somebody - change the FSB from 100 to 130Mhz, then it becomes 2400+ , but comp will automatically restart when i play games.Maybe i should change the vcore also- by 0.25 v - that mean i overclock my Cpu?!!!??

Another advice i got is take out the battery of my motherboard for 1hr , or change a new battery.

Until now my comp still run at 1800+...

you should not have to change voltages but you may want to try a mobo update if you havent already... Also I'm not sure what the FSB of that cpu is and I dont really feel like looking it up at the moment but your sure you set the FSB to the right setting? I may as well mention that this also was my case when I purchased 3 pc's ago an AthlonXP 2200+ system and it too read wrong until I changed the FSB and had no problems after.
 
I had the exact same problem mate! I am running a 2400+ and it was recognized as a 1800+. I simply changed the FSB to a higher number (one that fitted the core speed) and it recognized it perfectly :D

There's a website I mention in the thread I started which should tell you about changing the FSB, thus, correcting the problem.

AMD Athlon XP 2400+ --> 1800+??

Have a look there, it should fix it.

yea i also had the same problem with my 2800+ it was set up to run at 1.1 when it was supposed to be 1.8, i called amd and asked them about it and went to the website and got nothing then i contacted my motherboard people and they told me to change the fsb and multiplier (was my first time building a computer)
 
Aha.

This is a really frequent problem. It almost always involves the MOBO's failure to automatically set the FSB and detect which CPU is involved. I had this precise problem with my Athlon XP 1800+, where it ran at 1.1 gig, I think, when it was supposed to run at 1.5. All it took is the raising of the FSB from 100 to 133 Mhz and I was fine. Quite some time ago, I even raised it from 133 to 166 and am running an equivalent of an Athlon XP 2400-2500+. Hope you got my point.

Its not a failure. They are designed like that for a reason. Suppose you have a XP3200 (200x11.0) and you decide to put in a XP2100 (166x10.5) ... if the mobo didnt reset then youd be booting up an XP2100 at 200x11.0 ... and the CPU wouldnt be so happy. And neither would the user.

Second, make your own thread since your question isnt very related to the original problem.
 
LOL. Rude? Where did rude come from? I don't easily get frustrated, but this really pisses me off when people just revive threads that are obviously dead.
....and I still dont' get why you thought he was being rude by that statement.
