WHy is my internet so slow?

Hey, i seem to have a problem with my internet, i have a 6mbps internet conestion from at&t, but when i download it starts at 600kbps like it should, then it drops, about 50 to 100kbps ever second or so., so in about 10 seconds its down to about 70, then i drops and maintains itself at 30kbps, which ovisously is pissing me off. Anyone have an ideas?
 
really depends on where you're downloading from - you can only get files as fast as they're being sent to you.

go to speedtest.net and do the speed test. it will tell you if you're above or below the average for your isp
 
I'd really doubt the problem is in the router, most would quit working completely before slowing down like that.
Canadian ISP's will advertise fast speeds but make you pay extra to get them, and I've seen many instances where they'll cut your speed or bandwidth until you complain. Speedtest.net is the quickest and easiest way I know of to check how your isp is treating you.
 
My dowload speed is 5.23
upload is .64
with a ping of 31


This is on a serve thats about 30 miles away, so not too far.

I reset the router, and didnt help any. :(
