Why is stalker so demanding?

I can play Crysis max at an average 40fps but Stalker clear sky max I get 15-25fps its nuts, seems like dx10 causes most of the slow down. The game just not optimized well?

How big is your screen? I know since the 295 is a dual GPU card it handles bigger resolutions better, but since its capped at 800 somthing MB of memory, it struggles a bit.

because is renders a larger world then crysis.
and the art style makes it look like it shouldn't be as demanding as it is.
Xray engine 1.5 (clearsky version) actually is a more advanced engine then crysis in many ways.

Advancements made in 1.5 include volumetric light, dynamic volumetric smoke, full volumetric fire, soft water, dynamic wet surfaces (with water streaming down the sides of surfaces), depth-of-field blur, DirectX 10 support, SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion). A complete day and night system is included along with improved weather effects.

SSAO is the main difference, its extremely demanding

more advanced, more complicated, more temperamental. DX10 basically never worked on my pc with stalker, DX9 was fine and to be honest when it did i couldnt see the difference between them. I dont think stalker is more demanding, i can max that out (DX9) and get good fps. I have never come close to maxing out crysis (DX9), before i becomes unplayable.

well, 25-35 is normally playable. but i would mess with the shadow settings, thats what slows my pc down. also play with lighting distance and sun properties. you can greatly increase performance without making it look terrible (dx9) because in clear sky, you really can tell the difference, when you crank it up.
