My laptop has a 60gb harddrive that is divided into C: with 25gb and D: with 26gb. i was just wondering if there is any beneficial reason as to why it is serperated and if not, if its possible to get rid of the D: and have the full 60gb on the C:

cheers, kain.

well that means the harddrive has been partitioned. To delete a partition or logical drive. In the Disk Management window, right-click the partition you want to delete, and then click Delete Partition. (The only thing is it will delete everything on that partition, i belive not positive)

that won't matter because there is nothing stored on there yet.

so theres no reason to keep the D: ?

so how come they partition it from factory? does it have up sides if you are doing particular things?

so the space will automatically be transfered onto C once i delete the D will it?

cheers, kain.

Just be careful. I have an Acer laptop that had a 100GB hard drive, and it was split into two ~45GB partitions. I deleted the D: drive that had no data on it, however once I did that Windows did not boot. The same thing happened to my friend who has a similar Acer laptop. So before you do that, make sure to backup your documents and prepare to re-install Windows if need be.
so the space will automatically be transfered onto C once i delete the D will it?
No, it will just leave the space from the unpartitioned space sorta "there". You need to merge the unallocated space to the C: drive. I know Norton Partition Magic can do it, however im not sure of any free programs that can.

What I would do is use that second partition for your data, that way its not really a "loss" of space, and if something happens to your computer (virus, corrup files, ect), then your files will still be there.
