Does anyone else out there have vista? Check your resource manager, and see if it looks anything like this.

If you didn't KNOW you had a resource manager, alt-control-delete to get to the task manager and then click 'open resource manager'

it's a neat little tool that they introduced with vista, and i was shocked and appalled to see how bloated this o/s really is.

This is a shot of my system activity while doing NOTHING.

NOTHING.

is anyone else's vista that busy while idle? It's CONSTANTLY reading, writing, and using TONS of memory, even when i'm not asking it to do anything.

There's no chance i have a virus already, i guess that's just the nature of the beast.

Do you have an AV solution that features on-access scanning? Sophos often runs this for example and the HDD light will stay on for a few seconds even on idle.

well i just tried screenshoting mine but it was all blury again:mad: (Graphics drivers issue)

But my cpu,Mem,disk and network isnt as high as yours...what antivirus you running on Vista?

My memory usage stays around 38% used on idle.

This is mine:

*EDIT* - this was immedaitely after a boot though, like 20 seconds, so it could have been doing stuff still

i was more worried about the hard drive activity

seems weird that an operating system needs to access the hard drive so much....

i'm not running a virus scanner at all, and i even have the aero disabled.....

i'm not sure what it's up to. as long as your hard drive is also active even when idle, i'm less worried.

thanks.

sorry heyman421, your disc is tonnes mroe active than mine, look at the scale on the right hand side of the DISK activity window, mine isin 100Kb/s yours is in 1Mb/s so yours is like literally 10 times more than mine...

I only jsut realised that myself when i swa the levels jumping up, like WTF and then realised it had adjusted the scale....
